UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX Z. LEVY, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,149, dated october 9, 1894.
Appiimion filed February 15,1394.` seria] Na 500,201. (No model.)
'To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAX Z. LEVY, of Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri, have invented certain new andnseful Improvements in Leggins, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to leggins or leg protectors, and the object of the invention is to produce a cheap and durable article of this character, to be Worn beneath the trousers, and which can be adjusted to fit snugly various persons.
With this object in View, my invention con-k sists in its novel construction and arrangement, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In order that my invention may be fully understood, Iwill proceed to describeit with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1. is a perspective View, showing a leg protector in operative position. Fig. 2. is a View of the same in its unfolded position. Fig. 3. is a detail perspective view of the lebgin in its folded position, and slightly enlarged. Fig. 4. is a detailperspective view of a portion of the same. Y
In the said drawings, 1 designates a leggin, the sides of which converge downwardly so as to make the lower end narrower than the up-r per end. The upper end is formed with a series of V-shaped cuts, and secured therein are the iiexible andexpansive strips or gores 2; the object of which will be hereinafter explained. The leggin itself may be formed of any suitable material, being preferably made, for cheapness of construction, of thick and tough paper, andvat one margin, near its upper and lower ends, are formed the apertures 3, in which are engaged the elastic strips or straps 4. These straps 4, are adapted to be lengthened or shortened, as Y required, by means of the sliding buckle 5, which is carried by one end of the said strap, and operatively engages the body portion thereof. /These straps'are provided at their outer sides with a button 6, and are formed at their free ends with a button-hole 7. To secure the same in operative position, it is folded around the limb in the usual manner, and below the knee, and exten ds downwardly to the upper edge of the shoe. The straps 4 are now passed entirely around the same, and thebutton-holes 7 engaged over the buttons 6, so as to hold it securely in position.
It will be apparent, that'by providing the leggin with the flexible strips 2,2, it may beA made to fit the limb snugly, and that the expansive quality' of the straps 4 will secure the same firmly in position. 1f necessary, the straps may be lengthened or shortened, by the proper manipulation of the sliding buckle 5. It will be seen that aleggin thus formed will be a great protection from gwet and cold4 Weather.
From the above description, it will be seen that I have produced a leggin, which is simple and cheap of construction, and which is adjustable to flt persons of various sizes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim'as new, and desire to secure by Letters I In a leggin, the combination with a sheet of exible material provided with apertures in one side margin and with expansive gores in its upper margin, of straps slidinglyengaging said apertures, buckles carried by one end of said straps and engaging adj ustably the body-portion thereof, buttons carried by the outer side of said straps and holes in the ends of the straps engaging said buttons, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
` MAX Z. LEVY.
