M. E. HIGGINS.
UNDERWAIST FOR CHILDREN. 7
Patented May 15, 1883.
WITNESSES ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARY E. HIGGINS, OF CADILLAC, MICHIGAN.
UNDERWAIST FOR CHILDREN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,726, dated May 15, 1883. Application filed November 20, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARY E. HIGGINS, of Cadillac, in the county of Wexford and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements inGhildrens AdjustablelVaist-s for Hose and Leggin Attachments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists in a body garment or waist for children, composed of two seamless half-bodies and capable of adjustment down its back and front to vary its size, and having combined with it a hose-supporter, also a leggin-supporter, substantially as hereinafter described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 represents a partly-broken front view of a childs adjustable waist with hose and leggin supporters attached in accordance with my invention, and Fig.2 a rear View of the same upon a smaller scale.
A A indicate two seamless half-bodies, made of'any suitable material and formed with shoulder-straps or supporting-sleeves b b and lower extensions, 9 c, which are designed to extend down to or cover the thighs of the child. These half-bodies which form the waist are united by a lacing, (7, extending down the front of them, and by tapes or straps e and bucklesf, applied to their back marginal por tions, the whole forming an adjustable body garment or waist which may be readily let out or be taken up, both in front and rear, to vary its size as required. Pendent from the lower end of each extension 0 of this adjustable waist, by means of straps g and buckles h, are bifurcated hose-supporters B B, which may, if desired, be provided at their lower ends with metal loops Mfor engagement with buttons on the hose, or they may otherwise connect with the hose.
(J O are anotherpair oflike bifurcated straps, provided, if desired, with similar button-eugaging loops 1' i at their lower ends, and constituting the leggin-supporters of the article, and being united with the lower extensions, 0 c, of the body-pieces A A by tapes or straps g and buckles h.
Both the hose-supporters B B and legginsupporters O C may have their strap portions, as also the straps which connect them with the extensions 0 c of the half-bodies AA, made of elastic material, and said supporters are readily capable of being lengthened or shortened, as required, by means of the-buckles h h and straps g9, which connect them with the extensions 0 c of the half-bodies or waist A A.
The hose and leggin supporters, it will be observed, are attached by the tapes to the exsions o c by stitching or permanently and without the aid of buttons or other metallic fastenings to produce friction and liable to be torn off, and the extensions 0 c are so formed, meeting by a curve above the waist-line, that a child wearing the article has perfect freedom of action, and there is no perceptible strain upon the body.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. ln adjustable waists for hose and leggin attachments, the seamless half-bodies having means for their connection to the hose or leggins, and each half-body having the armhole formed therein, the material of the halfbody itself forming shoulder-pieces, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In waists for hose and leggin attachments, the half-bodies provided with means for their connection to the hose or leggins, with the shoulder straps or pieces formed integral therewith, and with the high curvatures in front and back, said curvatures being arranged above the waist-line to remove excess of strain therefrom, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a childs adjustable waist for hose and leggin attachments, the two halfbodies A, having the body-adjusting straps or lacing d e f, and the extensions 0, adapted to conform to the thighs, and having the adjustable hose and leggin straps B G, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
MARY E. HIGGINS.
