COMBINATION-SUIT.
amaze. v
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 13, 1917.
Application filed July 11, 1914. Serial No. 850,402.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, XVILLIAM K. J ones, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Combination-Suit, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved combination suit, combining in one garment overalls 0r trousers with a jacket or coat, and arranged to provide a back drop flap having a suspender connection with the back of the jacket to hold the flap up to allow of opening the same for sanitary purposes, and to divide the strain on the shoulders and the center of the back and allowing perfect freedom of the body and legs of the wearer.
In order to accomplish the desired result use is made of a jacket integrally connected at the front with trousers, the back of the trousers having a sanitary drop flap and the back of the jacket having attached thereto suspending straps connected with an adjustable main strap carrying suspender ends adapted to be connected with buttons or other attaching members held on the upper end of the said drop flap.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a rear perspective view of the combination suit as applied;
Fig. 2 is a like view of the same with the back drop flap in open position;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the combination suit open at the front to show the back drop flap and the suspending device for the same;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross section of the suspending device for the back drop flap; an
Fig. 5 is a face view of the same.
The combination suit in its general construction is similar to the one shown and described in the application for Letters Patent of the United States, No. 836,458, filed by me on May 1, 191 1, and the combination suit consists of a jacket or coat A and trousers B integrally connected at the front with the front of the jacket A. The suit is open along the front medial line from the collar of the jacket A. to the crotch of the trousers B to permit the wearer to conveniently don or remove it. Fastening devices C, such as buttons and buttonholes are used to close the front whenever it is desired to do so. The back of the trousers B is provided with a sanitary drop flap D, having a waistband D at its upper end. Buttons E are attached to this waistband and are adapted to be engaged by the terminals of suspender ends F provided at their middie F with a loop F engaging a loop formed on the lower end of a main suspending strap G, preferably made of elastic webbing, but non-elastic webbing may be used. The strap G is provided with the usual adjusting buckle H for lengthening or shortening the strap G to suit the convenience of the wearer. The upper end of the main strap G is provided with an attaching piece I. preferably of leather or similar material and from which extend attaching straps J of elastic or nonelas tic webbing. The upper ends of the straps J are sewed or otherwise fastened to the inner face of the back of the jacket A, and the said straps J radiate from the piece I in such a manner that the outer straps reach to the shoulder portions of the jacket while the middle strap J connects with the 'middle of the back, as will be readily understood by reference to the drawings.
By the arrangement described the drop flap D can be readily held up, and the strain is divided between the shoulder and center portions of the jacket A at the back thereof, thus allowing perfect freedom of the wearers body and legs. It will also be noticed that the strap G can be lengthened or shortsued to suit the convenience of the wearer for holding up the drop flap D the desired distance. It will be further noted that by using the radiating straps J a shoulder brace eflect will be secured and that the shape of the jacket will be better maintained.
The back of the jacket A is provided at its lower end with an integral covering flap K extending a distance below the waist line D of the drop flap D so as to cover the upper portion thereof when the several parts are in closed position, as shown in Fig. 1.
The sides of the drop flap D are provided with buttons L, L adapted to engage buttonholes L L formed in the sides of the trousers B, the buttonhole L being located at the waistband and the buttonhole L being located a distance downward from the buttonhole L By the arrangement described the drop flap D can be securely fastened in position at the sides to the sides of the trousers B, and the upper end of the drop flap can be fastened to the suspender ends F so as to securely hold the drop flap D in position.
The covering flap K, previously mentioned, is preferably provided at the lower corners with buttonholes K adapted to engage the buttons L prior to engaging the said buttons L with the buttonholes L as previously explained. By the arrangement described the sides of the covering flap K are held between the sides of the drop flap D and the sides of the trousers B to provide a dust-proof joint and thus prevent dust or other extraneous matter from passing by way of the joint to the undergarments of the wearer.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Washington, D. 0.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A garment comprising a jacket, trousers integrally'connected at the front with the said jacket, the back of said trousers having a sanitary drop flap, and buttons at its opposite edges, the sides of the trousers having button holes adapted to be engaged by said buttons, and the jacket provided with a covering flap provided with button holes at its lower corners adapted to engage the buttons prior to their engagement with the button holes in the sides of the trousers.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WVILLIAM KETGHUM JONES.
