Abstract

332,079. Reynolds, W. G. Aug. 6, 1929 Drawing-frames.-A sliver of cotton or like fibre 5 is drawn in an apparatus comprising a series of pairs of rollers 7 - - 22, Fig. 1, the pairs 9, 10; 13, 14; 17, 18; 21, 22 being drawing rollers and the intermediate pairs 11, 12; 15, 16; 19, 20 consisting of a grooved lower roller and a yielding presser roller occupying the groove whereby the strand is folded upon itself and condensed or compacted as shown in Fig. 4. The groove 25 in the lower roller 12 is formed with bevelled edges, the upper roller 11 being driven from the lower roller by spur gearing. The first pair of rollers 7, 8 serve as delivery rollers but a pair such as 11, 12 may be substituted therefor. A thread of rayon or other undrawn fibre may be united with the strand immediately before the rollers 21, 22.
