301,678. Jowett, P., Marsh, M. C., and British Research Association for the Woollen & Worsted Industries. Feb. 27, 1928. Twist tubes. - In ring spinning-frames for woollens means, which is applicable also to the spinning of cotton and other fibres, is provided in place of the usual deflecting rod whereby the tension of the yarn controls the angle and the mode of entrance of the yarn into the twist tube arranged behind the drawing-rollers. The mouthpiece 7 of the twist tube is flared and provided with notches, or projections constituted by pins 9, and the yarn passes, over a controller comprising a floating counterbalanced roller 3, whereby the angle at which the yarn enters the twist tube amd the engagement thereof with the notches for projections are automatically controlled, and a rotary roller 2, whereby such angle is limited. The bore of the tube may be smooth, rough, or rifled, and spring jaws 10 are provided and are so shaped that they may be brought close to the nip of the drawing-rollers 11.
