Abstract

1,182,130. Injection moulding. ROLINX Ltd. 25 July, 1968 [4 Aug., 1967], No. 35973/67. Heading B5A. An injection mould cavity 3, which is expanded during the injection and contracted during the cooling of the moulded article therein, is formed by relatively movable mould members 1 and 4 and a ring 10 embracing the member 4 and axially slidable thereon. The parts 4 and 10 are forced against the member 1, and when plastics material is injected through inlet 2 the member 4 is forced away slightly from the member 1 and slides on the ring. Pressure is maintained on the mould parts so that shrinkage of the moulded article permits the member 4 to move towards member 1. Hydraulic rams 9, 12 may urge the parts together or toggle mechanisms may be used. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the ring is in slidable contact with the fixed upper mould member and is hydraulically forced into engagement with the movable lower mould member.
