Mitchell S. Goldberg (b. 1959) is the chief judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 2008 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.
In 2024, Goldberg became the chief judge of the court.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Goldberg received a bachelor's degree from Ithaca College in 1981 and a Juris Doctor degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 1986.[1]
Professional career
Goldberg was an Assistant District Attorney for the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania District Attorney's Office from 1986 to 1989 before entering private practice in Philadelphia until 1996. Goldberg was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in the United States Attorney's Office from 1997 to 2003. Goldberg was appointed to serve as Judge of Bucks County Court of Common Pleas, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania from 2003 to 2008. Goldberg also served as an Adjunct Professor at Temple University Beasley School of Law from 2002 to 2006. [1]
Judicial career
Eastern District of Pennsylvania
Goldberg was appointed to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by President George W. Bush on July 24, 2008 to fill the seat vacated by John Padova Sr.. Goldberg was confirmed by the Senate on September 26, 2008 and commissioned on October 31, 2008.[2]
Goldberg became chief judge of the court in 2024.[1]
