Dora Irizarry is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She joined the court in 2004 after being nominated by President George W. Bush (R). She assumed senior status on January 26, 2020. Irizarry was the chief judge of the court from 2016 to 2020.
Before joining the Eastern District of New York, Irizarry was a private practice attorney.[1]
Education
Born in Puerto Rico, Irizarry graduated from Yale University with her bachelor's degree in 1976 and later graduated from Columbia University School of Law with her J.D. Degree in 1979.[1]

Judicial career
Eastern District of New York
Irizarry was nominated by President George W. Bush (R) on April 28, 2003, to a seat vacated by Judge Reena Raggi as Raggi was nominated to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Irizarry was confirmed by the Senate on June 24, 2004, on a Senate vote and received commission on July 8, 2004. She assumed senior status on January 26, 2020. Irizarry served as chief judge from 2016 to 2020.[2]
