Stanley Thomas Anderson is a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. He joined the court in 2008 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. He served as chief judge from 2017 to 2023.

Early life and education
Born in Lexington, Tennessee, Anderson graduated from the University of Tennessee with his bachelor's degree in 1976 and from Memphis State University's Cecil Humphreys School of Law with his J.D. in 1980.[1]

Anderson was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee by President George W. Bush on September 6, 2007, to a seat vacated by James D. Todd. The American Bar Association rated Anderson Unanimously Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Anderson's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on February 21, 2008, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on March 6, 2008. Anderson was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on April 10, 2008, and he received his commission on May 21, 2008. Anderson served as the chief judge of the court from 2017 to 2023.[1][2][3][4]

Anderson was a federal magistrate judge on the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee from 2003 until his elevation to an Article III district judgeship on the same court in 2008.[1]
