1306330 Voltage surge protection circuit; line transmission systems STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 7 Oct 1971 46701/71 Headings H3T and H4R An amplifying device such as a transistor t is protected from voltage surges, produced across a load connected thereto, by diodes D 1 , D 2 , each of which is normally reverse biased and connected from the signal output path to a respective reference potential, a capacitor being connected between the two diodes and in series with the signal output path. The load may be a cable CA transformer coupled to the device. An emitter load of a series connected resistor (R 1 , Fig. 2, not shown) and inductor (L 2 ) may be provided, negative feedback being taken from the emitter. A high pass filter comprising C 1 , an inductor (L @ ) and an output coupling capacitor (C 2 ) to a load (Z L ) may be used in place of transformer T.
