Abstract
1348476 Sub-station circuits; voltage limiters; protecting transistors against excess voltage SIEMENS AG 14 March 1972 [31 March 1971 (2)] 11723/72 Headings H4K and H3T A rectifier bridge circuit for protecting subscriber equipment against polarity reversals and voltage surges on the subscriber line comprises two Zener diodes connected in series opposition between the two wires of the line and two diodes which are oppositely poled to one another connected in reverse sequence to said Zener diodes across the series arrangement thereof, the equipment to be protected being connected between the junction point of the two Zener diodes and the junction point of the two diodes. The two diodes may form part of an integrated circuit carrying the subscriber equipment circuitry. Such a bridge circuit comprising components Z1, Z2, D1, D2 is shown in use with a standard subscriber telephone set in which a receiving amplifier EV and a transmitting amplifier SV are employed, the circuitry JS shown within the broken line being formed as an integrated circuit. The arrangement GA is for metering purposes and a filter circuit TP is used to prevent control pulses for a meter Z from reaching the bridge circuit. Further protection is afforded by a surge voltage diverter UA connected at the input to the subscriber equipment, this diverter having a response voltage which is substantially higher than that of the Zener diodes in the bridge circuit; an impedance L in the filter TP serves as a decoupling resistance between the diverter and bridge circuits. In the absence of any metering arrangement, a separate decoupling resistor must be used. A further less complicated embodiment is described with reference to Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), in which an impedance in the antiside tone bridge circuit of the equipment acts as the decoupling resistor. Terminals T1, T3 may be provided for the inclusion of a push-button dialling device instead of a rotary dial, the terminals T2, T3 being connected when a rotary dial is used.
