J. Owen Forrester was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He joined the court in 1981 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan (R). Forrester assumed senior status on April 27, 2004. His service terminated on July 1, 2014, when he died.[1]

Early life and education

A native Georgian, Forrester graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with his bachelor's degree in 1961 and later graduated from the Emory University School of Law with his J.D. in 1966.

Professional career

Forrester started his legal career as a staff attorney for the Callaway for Governor Committee in Georgia from 1966 to 1967. From 1967 to 1969, Forrester entered into private practice work licensed in the State of Georgia before joining the US Attorney's Office as the assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia from 1969 to 1976.

Forrester was nominated by Ronald Reagan (R) on November 24, 1981, to a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia vacated by Newell Edenfield.[1] Forrester was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 9, 1981, and received commission on December 10, 1981. Forrester retired from full-time service, assuming senior status on April 27, 2004. Forrester was succeeded in this position by William Duffey.

Forrester's service terminated July 1, 2014, when he died.[1]
