Orinda Dale Evans is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. She joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Evans is serving on senior status.[1]

Early life and education

Evans received her bachelor's degree from Duke University in 1965 and her J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 1968.[1]

Professional career

Evans began her career as a private practice attorney in Georgia from 1968 to 1979. She also served as counsel of the Atlanta Crime Commission from 1970 to 1971 and as an adjunct professor of law at Emory University from 1974 to 1977.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Georgia

On the unanimous recommendations of U.S. Senators Sam Nunn and Herman Talmadge, Evans was nominated to the Northern District of Georgia by President Jimmy Carter on June 5, 1979, to a seat vacated by Judge Albert Henderson. Evans was confirmed by the Senate on July 23, 1979, and received commission on July 24, 1979. Evans served as the chief judge of the Northern District of Georgia from 1999 to 2006 before assuming senior status on December 31, 2008.[1] Evans was succeeded in this position by Judge Steve C. Jones.
