Anyone has a hero.He can be real or imagined.In the following lines I will write about my real life hero.His name is Bear Grylls and he is an adventurer , survival instructor and television prenter.He is known for his series Man vs. Wild.In this documentary Bear jumps from a plane with the cameramen , a knife , a water bottle and he must to find his way back to civilization.In fact , he presents us survial techniques very detailed to show us how to escape alive from that environment.Also at the age of 23 , he became the youngest British which climbs Mount Everest.He is not only a survivor.He served in the British special forces where he was highly trained in different environments , for example in desert and winter wars.There learnt climbing , things about explosives and driving.Some of the places where he was include Ecuador , african savanna ,Sahara desert , Panama jungle and in many other places.Sometimes he used extreme techniques as not to die such as: drinking his own pee to hydrating his body , eating spiders and grubs and peeing on his shirt and using it as a hat to keep cold in desert.

'Texts give us insights into the nature of ourselves and our worlds.' Harper Lee's 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird develops our understanding of the world and those around us by allowing us to "walk in someone else's skin". Set in the 1930's and reflecting the early life of protagonist and narrator Scout, Harper Lee shows the coexistence of good and evil while promoting the need for equality of all men and the possibility of social change during a time of great social change in her own context. To Kill a Mockingbird provides powerful insight into the true nature of human beings, that is whether they are essentially good or essentially evil. Lee conveys this idea through Scout and Jem`s transition of perspective from childhood innocence, in which they assume that all people are good as they had never been exposed to evil, to a more adult perspective where they must incorporate the evils they had encountered into their view of the world. A dominant sub-theme in the novel is the prejudice, hatred and ignorance that the evil show towards the innocent "mockingbird(s)". Consequently, people who are not prepared for the evil that they encounter, such as Tom Robinson and Boo Radley, are subjected to great oppression and are destroyed. Jem is also exposed to the evils of racism during and after the trial, stating that the verdict of the trial "ain`t right", and retreats into a state of disillusionment. The character of Atticus Finch is virtually unique in the novel as he had experienced "a lot of ugly things" but had developed an understanding of the evils of the world without losing his faith in the human capacity for goodness. Atticus understands that, rather than being simply creatures of good or creatures of evil, most people have both good and bad qualities. The important thing is to appreciate the good qualities and understand the bad qualities by treating others with sympathy and trying to "climb in his skin and walk around in it". He tries to teach this ultimate moral lesson to Jem and Scout to show them that it is possible to live with conscience without losing hope or becoming cynical. In this way, Atticus is able to admire Mrs. Dubose's courage and see her as a "great lady" even while deploring her racism. The novel skilfully explains that human beings have a capacity for both great good and great evil, but its when you try to sympathise with them and try to understand their circumstances that you "finally see them".

elaborately explains his personal thoughts on the underlying meanings displayed in the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick. Sims essay The Dangers of Individualism and the Human Relationship to Technology in Philip K Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, deconstructs a lot of philosophical theories of the famous philosopher Heidegger relating to technology. He uses Heidegger's philosophy to connect moments in the book to the humanity of Dicks futuristic Earth. Throughout the essay Sims does not lose sight of what Dick wanted his readers to question about humanity. He argues that the relationship between humans and technology is a unique one unlike any other relationships; technology reminds us of our humanity. I agree with many points Sims believes where motivating reasons for Dick and what he believes Dick was trying to accomplish. Although I disagree of how Sims use of the word "Haven" when he is addressing what Androids believed what Earth was.

We worden overspoeld door een ware beeldenstorm, die ons tijd noch ruimte laat om het beeld tot ons te laten doordringen. Op televisie bijvoorbeeld laat de snelheid van het beeld zelfs geen ruimte meer voor het ogenblik: het ene beeld kondigt permanent het volgende beeld aan, het beeld zelf, de oogopslag, vervluchtigt en lost op als damp in de ether. Probably the first paper I wrote as a college student back in 2006, this is what I wrote for my class "Writing the Essay." It's a class that all NYU undergraduate students (except for NYU Gallatin students) are required to take. For my first paper, I wrote about childhood and related it to Jane Addam's Hull House.

On Immunity  is ostensibly a collection of very short essays concerning the ethics of vaccination. It’s aimed at those who are puzzled by this question: Which poses a bigger risk to a newborn child, unmitigated contagion or the controlled introduction of immunity? Since Eula Biss has come to view vaccination favorably, one could reasonably categorize her text as mere proselytism. However, “An Inoculation,” the book’s subtitle, suggests a genre that’s stranger and potentially more intimidating. By labeling her creation an inoculation (a term that has become synonymous with vaccination), Biss risks making readers as wary of her work as they are of the “shots” and “jabs” regularly administered by their doctors. In fact, the book’s third essay opens with a detailed examination of our inoculation phobia. Biss puts it simply: the way we talk about the process demonstrates our belief that “vaccination is a violence.” On Immunity doesn’t challenge this idea directly, although Biss is very interested in the comparison that many have drawn between vaccination and vampires. Instead, what this book challenges are notions of insularity. “Our bodies are not boundaries,” Biss insists. Putting aside the fact that inoculation is based on knowledge that’s both ancient and durable, Biss is a proponent of the morality of inoculation, which prioritizes the protection of whole communities, not just individuals.

In this essay, two poems will be analyzed and compared. “Dulce Et Decorum Est” from Wilfred Owen and “The Charge of the Light Brigade”, from Alfred Tennyson. There will be a comparative structure, analyzing how each other uses different literary and rhetoric devices to state arguments and represent his thoughts.

The introductory section of an essay is essential since it determines whether the reader will be interested in continuing to read the text or not. For this reason, the use of essay hooks is necessary to perform the task of leading and grabbing the attention of the reader regarding the subject of a particular essay. There are several types of hooks that one could consider making their work interesting to read. Thus, this paper seeks to carry out an exploration of the different types of essay hooks and provide the relevant examples for each.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a book series, which is based on Greek mythology, written by Rick Riordan. The first book of the series "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" is about adventures of twelve year old trouble kid who learns one of his parents is a Greek god, so he is a demigod. The book had a huge number of fans as soon as it was published in 2005. So in 2010 when the movie adaptation of the first book "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" was released, all Percy Jackson fans had been waiting for it. Unfortunately contrary to expectations, the movie version wasn't liked. The fans signified three main reasons for why they didn't like it. First of all they didn't like the cast of the film. In the book, Percy Jackson and his friends are about twelve years old, but the characters played by actors and actresses were in their 20's. Also one of the main characters of book series, Annabeth has got blonde hair and grey eyes, whereas Alexdra Daddario as movie version of Annabeth has got dark brown hair and blue eyes. Another aspect of why movie version wasn't popular as much as the book is story adaptation. Scriptwriters of the movie preferred changing the original story in addition to shortened it for the movie, so the fans of the Percy Jackson series that have read the first book at least two or three times couldn't see the scenes which they are looking forward to seeing on the wide screen. For example; one of the most important "Percabeth" moments which was expected to see by fans on the screen, Percy and Annabeth's meeting scene and Annabeth's popular quote "You droll when you sleep!" was deleted like some other scenes and quotes. The most important irritating thing about story is adding some irrelevant scenes to movie just like pearl hunting. For example, even though three pearls are given to Percy by a nereid (river spirits in Greek mythology) in the book; Percy, Annabeth and Grover have to find these pearls one by one from another magical places in the movie. Finally the film wasn't liked because of its decors. Camp Half-blood in the movie was a completely disappointment for the fans as they wanted to see a camp like descripted in the book, close to their imagination. In the book each of the twelve Olympians has glorious cabins in the Camp Half-blood which represent their power and abilities. However in the movie, instead of these glorious cabins there were buildings like a tent. All in all, there are lots of differences between the book version and the movie version of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and because of these differences almost all the fans of Percy Jackson and the Olympians series didn't like the movie version. They mentioned that they prefer the Rick Riordan's original story.

Once during the lecture  on Textual Linguistics we (the class), after reading Stockton's piece were supposed to answer  this particular question, as a home assignment.
We never returned to this matter again, unfortunately.
The day we were given the task i sat down and wrote this essay.

This paper reports different aspects of telecommunications development that need to be addressed when performing cross country performance assessments. The paper proposes an integrated approach in terms of theoretical background and analytical tools for benchmarking. The proposed threedimensional benchmarking model, called ISER, consists of the assessment of 'Information Society, sector Efficiency and Regulatory' framework. The model is also composed of two commonly used analytical tools in the benchmarking telecommunications sector: 1) Composite Indicators (CIs) and 2) Data Envelopment Analyses (DEA). An empirical example is given for 20 developing (transition) countries in 2002 and 2007. The results are discussed in terms of policy making.

“On good days I feel I am a bridge. On bad days I just feel alone,” Sergio Troncoso writes in this riveting collection of sixteen personal essays in which he seeks to connect the humanity of his Mexican family to people he meets on the East Coast, including his wife’s Jewish kin. Raised in a home steps from the Mexican border in El Paso, Texas, Troncoso crossed what seemed an even more imposing border when he left home to attend Harvard College.

Initially, “outsider status” was thrust upon him; later, he adopted it willingly, writing about the Southwest and Chicanos in an effort to communicate who he was and where he came from to those unfamiliar with his childhood world. He wrote to maintain his ties to his parents and his abuelita, and to fight against the elitism he experienced at an Ivy League school. “I was torn,” he writes, “between the people I loved at home and the ideas I devoured away from home.”

Troncoso writes to preserve his connections to the past, but he puts pen to paper just as much for the future. In his three-part essay entitled “Letter to My Young Sons,” he documents the terror of his wife’s breast cancer diagnosis and the ups and downs of her surgery and treatment. Other essays convey the joys and frustrations of fatherhood, his uneasy relationship with his elderly father, and the impact his wife’s Jewish heritage and religion have on his Mexican-American identity.

Crossing Borders: Personal Essays reveals a writer, father and husband who has crossed linguistic, cultural and intellectual borders to provoke debate about contemporary Mexican-American identity.  Challenging assumptions about literature, the role of writers in America, fatherhood and family, these essays bridge the chasm between the poverty of the border region and the highest echelons of success in America. Troncoso writes with the deepest faith in humanity about sacrifice, commitment and honesty.

The women in the novel In Cold Blood are presented very differently yet they are all shown to conform the stereotypical interpretation of a woman, ranging from young Nancy and Susan to the older Mrs Myrtle Clarke, who is seen to conform to the typicality of women during the 1950's. The 1950'S was a decade where women were expected to stay at home in order to cook, clean and care for the children. These were the duties expected from women during this decade and if this wasn't fulfilled this was seen as either neglect or as a weakness. These roles were adopted by the women of the time due to the fact that the men had just returned from World War II, and the women during this time had adapted to a life without men and had taken on the typical male roles and jobs in order for society to continue. After the war, the men took back their stereotype and their jobs and careers were given back to them and not many women stayed in a profession, those of the women who did continue into a workplace, were often working as teachers and nurses.
