Abstract

501,155. Stapling fibres. COURTAULDS, Ltd., ASHTON, H., and HARDACRE, W. Oct. 8, 1937, No. 27387. [Class 120 (iii)] Staple fibre is made by combining a continuous thread with one made up of short lengths of fibre, and then passing the combined thread through drafting rollers. The distances between the pairs of rollers may be adapted to the length of fibre into which the thread is to be broken, and should approximate to the length of the fibre of the thread with which the continuous thread is combined. In an example, a continuous thread of viscose rayon is twisted with a thread of wool in which the individual fibres have a length not exceeding 5 ins., the combined material being then passed through drafting rollers suitably spaced and weighted so as to break the continuous filaments of rayon, and draft them with the individual fibres of wool. The drafting rollers may be those contained in a gill box without fallers, a draw box, a roving frame, or a spinning frame.
