Definitions
- the invention relates to a weldable attachment for an electrical contact, in particular for a ground connection.
- Weldable fasteners are used, for example, in automotive engineering, where they are used to produce an electrical ground contact. From EP 0 640 404 it is known how such an electrical contact is attached to a metal sheet. In order to avoid contamination of the electrical contact surfaces, a protective cap is placed on a threaded bolt. This bolt with a protective cap is then connected to the metal sheet by welding. The protective cap has the particular task of protecting the thread of the bolt from subsequent contamination, in particular paint, which would prevent electrical contact when a cable is attached or screwed on.
- known mass bolts of this type have a relatively high overall height, which is not always desirable.
- the resulting connections, especially after welding to thin structures, can only absorb limited torques.
- the weldable attachment according to the invention for an electrical contact comprises a weld nut which has an electrical contact surface on its upper side and an annular axial extension on its underside, which surrounds a cavity of a predeterminable depth, and a screw screwed into the weld nut, which is also an electrical one Has contact surface, wherein a spacer ring is clamped between the contact surfaces.
- the nut, spacer ring and screw are assembled and handled as one unit and welded on.
- the electrical contact surfaces between the screw and the weld nut are protected against contamination with the aid of the clamped-in spacer ring.
- the contact surfaces therefore remain clean during transport, handling, the welding process and later painting processes. Later, by unscrewing the screw, removing the spacer ring, attaching a contact ring and screwing the screw back on again, good quality electrical contact can be made. Due to the large diameter of the welding nut, in contrast to a conventional welding stud, which usually has a smaller diameter, a higher torque can be absorbed. In addition, welding with smaller sheet thicknesses, i.e. less than 0.6 mm, possible. The welding of a nut with a ring-shaped extension, suitable shapes and dimensions and the systems required for this are generally known in the prior art.
- a contact produced in this way is preferably a ground contact for voltages between 6 and 42 volts, in particular in a motor vehicle.
- the present invention is particularly suitable.
- the spacer ring consists of elastic material, in particular polyethylene. This allows the parts to be securely held together during pre-assembly.
- the spacer ring protects as a seal against paint wetting and other contaminants. This function is important if, for example, the workpiece is given one or more varnishes before a contact ring is attached.
- the spacer ring has a thickness that is approximately equal to the depth of the cavity in the welded state. This is particularly important in connection with a further preferred embodiment of the invention, according to which the end of the screw, when the spacer ring is tensioned, is approximately flush with the end of the internal thread of the weld nut.
- the latter means that neither the external thread of the screw nor the internal thread of the weld nut can be contaminated by metal splashes during welding. This allows the screw to be easily removed and screwed in later.
- the screw with the dimensioning of the spacer ring mentioned above cannot hit the workpiece even when fully tightened, since the end of the screw can protrude into the cavity by a maximum of an excess that is the thickness of the spacer ring minus Corresponds to the thickness of the contact ring.
- the specified matching of the dimensions of all parts to one another is therefore particularly advantageous for the present invention.

- Fig. 2. the welded attachment according to Fig. 1, in which the spacer ring is removed and an electrical line is attached.
- Fig. 1 shows a weldable attachment according to the invention for an electrical contact. It comprises a weld nut 1, which has an electrical contact surface 9 on its upper side and an annular axial extension 6 on its underside, which surrounds a cavity 4 of a predeterminable depth T, and with a screw 3 screwed into the weld nut 1, which is also an electrical one Has contact surface 9, wherein a spacer ring 2 is clamped between the contact surfaces 9.
- the spacer ring 2 is shaped such that it essentially covers the contact surfaces 9 and is securely clamped between them.
- the screw 3 and the welding nut 1 are braced against one another, so that loosening of the screw 3 from the welding nut 1 is prevented even under heavy mechanical stress (for example due to vibrations during transport or handling) due to the comparatively high static friction becomes.
- the spacer ring 2 seals the screw 3 against the weld nut 1 and prevents the ingress of contaminants or paint to the contact surfaces and into the interior of the preassembled combination.
- the end 5 of the screw 3 with an external thread 13 is flush with the end of the internal thread 12 of the weld nut 1.
- a workpiece 7 which can also consist of a thin sheet of less than 0.6 mm thickness, for example, no metal splashes can occur deposit on the threads and later hinder disassembly or assembly.
- the thickness D of the spacer ring 2 is advantageously approximately the same as the depth T of the cavity 4. As a result, the screw cannot later strike the workpiece 7 when the spacer ring 2 is replaced by an electrical contact ring.
- FIG. 2 shows the completely assembled fastening according to the invention according to FIG. 1, in which an electrical line 10 with a contact ring 8 is clamped in place of the spacer ring 2 between the contact surfaces 9 of screw 3 and weld nut 1. Relatively high currents can be conducted and high torques can be absorbed via the annular welded connection 11.
- the screwed-in screw 3 at its end 5 reaches at most a protrusion d into the cavity 4 which corresponds to the thickness D of the former spacer ring 2 minus the thickness of the contact ring 8 and can therefore not touch the workpiece 7 and therefore not the weld connection 11 damage if the spacer ring 2 previously had a thickness D like the depth T of the cavity 4.
- the invention is particularly suitable for use in series production in which automatic tools are used.
- the prefabricated unit consisting of weld nut, spacer ring and screw can be handled and welded like other welded parts and is suitable for welding to thin sheets, for contacts with a low overall height and high loads.

The inventive combination is characterized in that that it has reduced overall height, no metal splatter is disposed on the thread (12) during welding, the contact areas (9) are protected during assembly, and the welded connection can receive high torques even when welded onto thin work pieces (7).
Description
The invention relates to a weldable attachment for an electrical contact, in particular for a ground connection.
Weldable fasteners are used, for example, in automotive engineering, where they are used to produce an electrical ground contact.
On the one hand, known mass bolts of this type have a relatively high overall height, which is not always desirable. On the other hand, it is difficult to weld known bulk bolts to sheets of less than 0.6 mm in thickness. In addition, the resulting connections, especially after welding to thin structures, can only absorb limited torques.
It is therefore an object of the invention to overcome the disadvantages mentioned and to provide a weldable attachment which allows a secure attachment of an electrical contact with a low overall height. This object is achieved by the features of claim 1. Further advantageous refinements of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
The weldable attachment according to the invention for an electrical contact comprises a weld nut which has an electrical contact surface on its upper side and an annular axial extension on its underside, which surrounds a cavity of a predeterminable depth, and a screw screwed into the weld nut, which is also an electrical one Has contact surface, wherein a spacer ring is clamped between the contact surfaces. The nut, spacer ring and screw are assembled and handled as one unit and welded on. By welding the ring-shaped extension of the welding nut onto a metal sheet, in contrast to a comparable large conventional welding stud, a larger outside diameter of the welded connection is achieved, so that higher torques can be absorbed. The electrical contact surfaces between the screw and the weld nut are protected against contamination with the aid of the clamped-in spacer ring. The contact surfaces therefore remain clean during transport, handling, the welding process and later painting processes.
A contact produced in this way is preferably a ground contact for voltages between 6 and 42 volts, in particular in a motor vehicle. For such applications fertilize in series production, the present invention is particularly suitable.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the spacer ring consists of elastic material, in particular polyethylene. This allows the parts to be securely held together during pre-assembly.
In a special development of the invention, the spacer ring protects as a seal against paint wetting and other contaminants. This function is important if, for example, the workpiece is given one or more varnishes before a contact ring is attached.
In a particularly advantageous development of the invention, the spacer ring has a thickness that is approximately equal to the depth of the cavity in the welded state. This is particularly important in connection with a further preferred embodiment of the invention, according to which the end of the screw, when the spacer ring is tensioned, is approximately flush with the end of the internal thread of the weld nut. The latter means that neither the external thread of the screw nor the internal thread of the weld nut can be contaminated by metal splashes during welding. This allows the screw to be easily removed and screwed in later. After removing the spacer ring and attaching a contact ring, the screw with the dimensioning of the spacer ring mentioned above cannot hit the workpiece even when fully tightened, since the end of the screw can protrude into the cavity by a maximum of an excess that is the thickness of the spacer ring minus Corresponds to the thickness of the contact ring. The specified matching of the dimensions of all parts to one another is therefore particularly advantageous for the present invention.
Finally, it is also advantageous to make the outer diameter of the annular extension larger than the outer diameter of the other fastening. This allows adaptation to different workpiece thicknesses and desired torques without changing the dimensions of the contact surfaces.
Es zeigenFurther special configurations and advantages of the invention are described in the following drawing. Without restricting the content of the invention, the drawing shows one of many possible forms of implementation. Show it

Fig. The spacer ring 2 is shaped such that it essentially covers the contact surfaces 9 and is securely clamped between them. By clamping the spacer ring 2, the screw 3 and the welding nut 1 are braced against one another, so that loosening of the screw 3 from the welding nut 1 is prevented even under heavy mechanical stress (for example due to vibrations during transport or handling) due to the comparatively high static friction becomes. The spacer ring 2 seals the screw 3 against the weld nut 1 and prevents the ingress of contaminants or paint to the contact surfaces and into the interior of the preassembled combination. The end 5 of the screw 3 with an external thread 13 is flush with the end of the internal thread 12 of the weld nut 1. When welding onto a workpiece 7, which can also consist of a thin sheet of less than 0.6 mm thickness, for example, no metal splashes can occur deposit on the threads and later hinder disassembly or assembly. The thickness D of the spacer ring 2 is advantageously approximately the same as the depth T of the cavity 4. As a result, the screw cannot later strike the workpiece 7 when the spacer ring 2 is replaced by an electrical contact ring.
Relatively high currents can be conducted and high torques can be absorbed via the annular welded connection 11. The screwed-in screw 3 at its end 5 reaches at most a protrusion d into the cavity 4 which corresponds to the thickness D of the former spacer ring 2 minus the thickness of the contact ring 8 and can therefore not touch the workpiece 7 and therefore not the weld connection 11 damage if the spacer ring 2 previously had a thickness D like the depth T of the cavity 4.
The invention is particularly suitable for use in series production in which automatic tools are used. The prefabricated unit consisting of weld nut, spacer ring and screw can be handled and welded like other welded parts and is suitable for welding to thin sheets, for contacts with a low overall height and high loads.
