Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve brightness and screen quality while maintaining high resolution by providing a fluorescent substance layer formed of blocks made of a fluorescent substance crystal extending in the nearly perpendicular direction to a substrate via a metal thin film corresponding to mosaic structure, and by forming a photoconductive surface on it.
CONSTITUTION: A radiant-ray image is converted by input screen 402 into an electron-beam image, which is acceleration-focused by an electro-optical system, and the acceleration-focused electron-beam image is converted into a visual image by using output screen 403. Many mosaic surfaces 502 formed on one surface of substrate 501 are sectioned by mesh-shaped streaks 503, on which metal thin-film 504 is formed. Then, fluorescent substance layer 510 formed on blocks made of a fluorescent substance crystal expanding in the nearly-perpendicular direction to substrate 501 is provided via this thin-film layer 504 corresponding to mosaic structure 502, and photoconductive surface is formed on this fluorescent substance layer 510. Consequently, the brightness and screen quality can both be improved while maintaining high resolution.
