Abstract

987,102. Printing apparatus. G. GIORI. July 11, 1961, No. 25053/61. Heading B6C. In a multi-colour intaglio rotary press comprising sheet feeding rollers 1, 2, impression cylinder 4 and engraved plate cylinder 5 each of three inking mechanisms I, II, III, incorporates a hard, e.g. metallic, surfaced cylinder 13 which bears a partial image to thereby determine the areas of the plate on the cylinder 5 which are to be inked in the particular colour being fed by its associated mechanism. Each partial image is transferred from its associated cylinder 13 to the engraved plate upon the cylinder 5 through a transfer roller 12 having a smooth surface of resilient material. The surface of each cylinder 13 may be prepared by etching or cutting or may be magnetized in those areas which correspond to areas of the finished image that are to be inked in the relevant colour. Alternatively, ink-repelling means of the type used for lithographic printing processes may be employed.
