Abstract

[Also in Divisions C3 and C4] In a planographic printing process a composition comprising a hydrophilic printing ink having dispersed therein a lipophilic phase which is colourless or contrasting in colour or tone with the ink (see Divisions C4-C5) is applied to the printing plate. The process is a " reversed " printing in which positive copies of the matter to be reproduced are printed, the areas of the printing plate corresponding with the positive or image areas of the original matter being hydrophilic. The hydrophilic areas may be water-permeable, as described in Specification 1,139,891. Suitable printing plates are prepared by the silver complex diffusion transfer process of Specifications 913,591 or 946,538, or by an electrophotographic process e.g. as in Specification 1,088,834, U.S.A. Specifications 2,952,536 or 3,001,872, or Belgian Specifications 610,060 or 625,335. The composition is applied in a press by the direct inking roller system.
