Abstract

To facilitate spinning, regenerated cellulose staple fibre is treated prior to drafting with an aqueous emulsion of one or more saturated aliphatic monohydric alcohols containing 22-34 carbon atoms in the chain. The alcohol or alcohols may be in admixtures with esters of the alcohols with fatty acids of chain length 15-34 carbon atoms, e.g. as in cotton wax or a partial saponification of beeswax or carnauba wax. The treating solution may also contain paraffin or free acids of high molecular weight. In examples the treating solution comprises: (1) myricyl alcohol emulsified with the aid of a stearyl-amine-ethylene oxide condensation product (2) docosyl alcohol emulsified with the aid of sulphuric acid and neutralized with caustic soda, (3) an emulsion containing cerotinic acid (25H51 COOH) myricyl ester, myricyl alcohol, a saturated hydrocarbon fraction of chain length about 30 carbon atoms and a stearylamine-ethylene oxide condensation product.
