Abstract

A concentrate to be diluted with water or an organic liquid to produce an agent for improving the spinnability of fibres comprises an organic lubricating base mass, which is free from or has only a small percentage of water, and at least 13 per cent of silica in the form of particles having a size of 1-500 millimicrons. The concentrate may be prepared by kneading the silica with a wetting agent and incorporating the mixture into the base mass. Examples of materials suitable for the base mass are fats, oils, waxes, paraffin waxes, fatty alcohols, soaps, fatty alcohol sulphonates, glycols, polyglycols, condensation products of fatty acids and taurine and salts of these compounds, and also hydroxyethylation products of fatty alcohols, carboxylic acids and amines. In examples: (1) silica aerogel is mixed with 1,4-butanediol and the product is diulted with water and used to treat cotton or staple fibre two cylinder yarn; (2) silica aerogel is mixed with the reaction product of oleic acid and ethylene oxide and the mixture is worked into spindle oil; the product is diluted with water and used to treat fibres of pure wool or half wool; (3) silica aerogel is mixed with the reaction product of stearic acid and ethylene oxide and the mixture is worked into water; the product is diluted with water and used to treat staple fibre. Specification 607,696 is referred to.ALSO:A concentrate to be diluted with water or an organic liquid to produce an agent for improving the spinnability of fibres comprises an organic lubricating base mass, which is free from or has only a small percentage of water, and at least 13 per cent of silica in the form of particles having a size of 1-500 millimicrons. The concentrate may be prepared by kneading the silica with a wetting-agent and incorporating the mixture into the base mass. Examples of materials suitable for the base mass are fats, oils, waxes, paraffin waxes, fatty alcohols, soaps, fatty alcohol sulphonates, glycols, polyglycols, condensation products of fatty acids and taurines and salts of these compounds, and also hydroxyethylation products of fatty alcohols, carboxylic acids, and amines. In examples: (1) silica aerogel is mixed with 1,4-butanediol and the product diluted with water and used to treat cotton or staple fibre two cylinder yarn; (2) silica aerogel is mixed with the reaction product of oleic acid and ethylene oxide and the mixture worked into spindle oil; the product is diluted with water and used to treat fibres of pure wool or half wool; (3) silica aerogel is mixed with the reaction product of stearic acid and ethylene oxide and the mixture worked into water, the product diluted with water and used to treat staple fibre.
