Abstract

[Class 35] [See also Group XXXVII] In a reciprocating motor for driving toys, &c. of the type comprising a " pot " or like magnet with an armature pivoted to the magnet and reciprocating under the influence of the magnet and a spring, weight, &c., the armature is pivoted to the actual end face of the magnet near the air gap, the body portion of the armature being in contact with the end face of the magnet. Fig. 1 shows an armature 14 with projections 16 entering openings 17 in the end face of the magnet casing 11 to form a pivot. The armature carries a projection 15 attached to a spring 18, a blade spring 20 having a contact 21 engaging a fixed contact 22 carried by a stirrup 23 attached to the magnet casing, and an arm 32 ending in a lug 33 engaging a slot 34 in a lever 35. The lever 35 has a pawl 36 engaging a ratchet 42 and is pivoted to an arm 38 journalled on the spindle of the ratchet. The arm 38 carries a stop 43 to limit the movement of the lever 35. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 the spring 20<1> carrying the contact 21<1> is arranged so as to have an approximately longitudinal motion. The armature is held in place by pieces 46 attached to the magnet casing and engaging openings in the upper surface of the armature. The spring 18 is arranged to hold the contacts open, so that the apparatus operates to keep a swinging or like member, striking the end of the armature, so as to close the circuit in motion.
