Abstract

1311607 Damping apparatus in printing apparatus ROLAND OFFSETMASCHINENFABRIK FABER & SCHLEICHER AG 19 April 1971 5 March 1970] 23065/71 Heading B6C A plate cylinder 6, Fig. 1, is dampened by a roller train comprising a formation roller 5, an intermediate roller 4, a distributing roller 3 and a forme roller 1 the fountain and dietributing rollers being on fixed axes whilst the intermediate and forme rollers are mounted on bearings the whole train being in continuous contact during operation. The bearings 10 carrying the forme roller 1 are movable through hand operated cam device 20 to firstly move the roller from the plate cylinder and subsequently to withdraw the roller so that it also does not contact the distributing roller 3. A similar mechanism including cam device 43 enables the intermediate roller 4 to be initially withdrawn from the roller 3 and subsequently from the fountain roller 5. The latter is driven by a variable speed motor 20 and provision is also made to enable finite adjustment of the rollers 1 and 4 relative to the other rollers and the plate cylinder. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement of fountain, intermediate distributer and forme rollers 56, 55, 52 and 50 wherein movement of rollers 50 and 55 is effected through the use of pneumatic means. In a further arrangement the damping apparatus is operated automatically.
