Abstract

1,261,607. Printing apparatus. T. H. CLARK. 28 Sept., 1970 [26 Sept., 1969], No. 47425/69. Heading B6C. Labels are printed in a spirit duplicator by passing a perforated web of label blanks through a machine which comprises a printing cylinder 13 in the form of a segmented roller and an impression roller 20. A printing plate is releasably attached to the cylinder 13 and the web is moved through the machine from a roll 21, the impression roller 20 being mounted on a frame 17 which is spring-loaded in an upward direction and is movable against the spring by a hand lever connected to the frame. The machine shown is operated by a manual lever and handle 14 and as each rotation of the printing cylinder 13 is effected an automatic bellows device pumps spirit from a container 26 to a spirit application device 23 which only contacts the web upstream of the cylinder 13 whilst spirit is being applied. In an alternative arrangement the handle 14 is replaced by an electric motor which is automatically controlled by a mechanism counting the mumber of labels printed. The frame 17 is mounted on movable base 11a such that movement of the base enables the impression roller 20 to be adjusted tangentially of the printing cylinder.
