At Chinchorro Bay, Caribbean of Mexico, is the second most abundant species of
appendicularians after Oikopleura (Coecaria) longicauda (Vogth, 1864) (Castellanos-Osorio 2003).
1 Urochordata [Ascidians (Tunicates or Sea Squirts), Larvaceans (
Appendicularians), Thaliaceans (Salps, Doliolids, and Chain Tunicates)]
Evidence from 18S rDNA shows that the stolidobranch tunicates may also be closely related to the
appendicularians, which include the pelagic oikopleurid tunicates that build mucous houses (2-4).
Other less abundant groups (<1%) such as siphonophores, medusae, cladocerans, heteropods,
appendicularians and echinoderm larvae showed a negative correlation (-0.64 < r < -0.28; P < 0.05).
Retention efficiency of 0.2 to 6 [micro]m particles by the
appendicularians Oikopleura dioica and Fritillaria borealis.
Two new
appendicularians from the Eastern Pacific, with notes on the morphology of Fritillaria aequatorialis and Tectillaria fertilis.
Among holoplankton, chaetognaths and
appendicularians (Oikopleura spp.) were very frequent.
Appendicularians maintain their tail throughout life, and as solitary, freely swimming filter-feeders, both their lifestyle and their adult chordate body plan differ from those of other tunicate groups (Fenaux, 1998; Fenaux et al., 1998).
Additionally, an important percentage of juvenile
appendicularians was collected (4.3%).
Taxon Host Harpacticoida Microsetella Brady and
appendicularians (including Robertson.
Appendicularians (Urochordata) of Costa Rica and adjacent zones.
During the sampling period the mesozoo-plankton community was characterized by the presence of different groups, such as copepods, chaetognaths, crustacean larvae, ostracods, cladocerans, icthyoplankton (fish larvae), molluscs,
appendicularians, echinoderms and brachiopods larvae (Table 1).
