Be it known that we, GEORGE W. ALLEN and WARREN B. BEACH, citizens of the United States, residing at Clyde, in the county of Cloud and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Billiard-Oue-Tip Fastener, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to billiard-cue-tip fasteners.

The object of the invention is in a ready and practical manner to secure the tip to the cue in such manner as will be absolutely positive in holding it against accidental separation until worn out, and, further, in which the replacing of a new tip for one that is worn out may be accomplished without the necessity of the'employment of any particular implement or tool for the purpose.

With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a billiard-cue-tip fastener, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

ln the accompanying drawings7 forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure partly in section, of a portion of a billiardcue, exhibiting the tip of the'present invention combined therewith. Fig. 2 is an inverted perspective detail of the button or point. Fig. 8 is a similar view of the attaching member. Fig. 4 is a similar view-of the securing element.

Referring to the drawings, C designates a cue of the usual or any preferred construction and having combined with it a metallic ferrule F, provided with a centrally-arranged longitudinally disposed threaded oriiice f. As these parts may be of the usual or any further description thereof is deemed unnecessary.

The present invention resides in the novel form of cue-tip fastener which embodies a button or point l made, preferably, of leather, as usual, an attaching member 2, of metal, and a securing element 3, peferably of leather. The button l is, as usual, semispherical in shape and is provided on its iiat face with a socket 4, which is adapted to be l 1s a view in elevation,v

engaged by the head 5 of the attaching member. As clearly shown in Eig. 3, the head 5 is rectangular and is provided with oppositely-disposed cutting edges 6, which are adapted to form a seat in the opposite walls of the socket, thus to effect positive locking or securing of the attaching member of the button. The cutting edges are disposed oppositely to the pitch of the threads, so that to eifect the connection of the head with the walls of the socket it will be necessary to turn the screwfrom right to left, the screw-threads being right hand. When the member has been turned to bring the length of the head at right angles to that of the socket, glue or any other suitable adhesive is filled into the socket and around the head and shank of the member, thereby securely anchoring it in position. After the attaching member has thus been secured the securing element 3 is positioned as shown in Fig. 1, being held combined with the button by glue'or any other suitable adhesive, and when the adhesive sets any tendency on the part of the attaching member to turn or move will be positively precluded. ln positioning the tip upon the cue it will only be necessary to bring the threaded shank of the attaching member into en agement with the threaded oriiieef of the errule, whereby the positive combination of the tip and cue will be secured. Owing to the fact that there will be no possibility of the button becoming detached from the attaching member, the former can be used until worn out without resetting or regluing, and when no longer fit for use it will be removed and replaced by a new tip at a cost that will be practically negligible.

The improvements herein defined While simple in character willbe found thoroughly efficient in use for the purposes designed and may be readily adapted to ordinary cues without requiring any change whatever in their structural arrangement other than the provision of the threaded orifice in the ferrule.
