amwwto'c finkenmann UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE ANKENMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BILLIARD-CUE TIP.
To all whom. 15 may concern.
Be it known that I, GEORGE ANKENMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billiard- Cue Tips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in billiard cue tips, and it consists of certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more clearly set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim.
The prime object of my invention, among others, is to provide a reliably efiicient form of cue tip which may be readily secured in its operative position upon the end of the one and may be quickly replaced, if for any reason, such action should be found to be necessary.
A further object of my invention is to provide an efficient cue tip of very simple construction, which can therefore be cheaply manufactured.
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter made clearly apparent, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part of this application, and in which,
Figure 1 shows one form of my invention as applied to use, the same being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the cue tip separated from its socket. Fig. 3 is a detail view in side elevation of the end of the cue.
For convenience of reference to the various details of my invention and cooperating accessories, numerals will be employed, the same numeral applying to a corresponding part throughout the several views.
In materializing my invent-ion, I provide upon the end of the one 1, a suitably shaped threaded terminal 2, in some instances preferably having the extension 3, provided Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 7, 1912.

with a tapered point 4, which latter is designed to enter a seat 5 in the shank 6 of my cue tip 7, whereby when said point enters said socket or recess 5, it will spread the same to fill the inwardly tapered or enlarged socket 8, formed in the outer end of the ferrule 9, the opposite end of the ferrule being internally threaded to receive the exteriorly threaded extension 2 of the cue.
By the arrangement I have just described, it will be unnecessary to provide a threaded socket for the shank 6, inasmuch as said shank will be extended at its free edge so as to snugly fill the socket 8, as before explained.
It will be under-stood that the one tip may be made of leather or any other kind of material most suitable and the same is true in respect to the body portion of the ferrule 9, inasmuch as that may be formed of such material as will be found most desirable in actual practice. The tip may, therefore be made in one or more pieces of leather or other kind of material and the shank thereon entered into a threaded aperture or socket or an unthreaded socket, as preferred. If the tip is made with a shank or stem, it can be formed in one or more pieces of leather or other kind of material, with or without thread, upon the stem or shank, as stated.
Believing that the advantages and manner of constructing my invention have thus been made clearly apparent, further description is deemed unnecessary.
What I claim is The combination with a billiard cue having a reduced threaded end and formed with a pin extending longitudinally from said threaded portion and provided with a beveled terminal, a sleeve threaded on said threaded portion and provided with an opening to snugly receive said pin and a socket having an under-cut wall into which said beveled terminal is adapted to extend and a tip of yielding material having a conical stud adapted to fit in said socket and having a centrally disposed opening adapted to receive 'the beveled terminal of said In testimony whereof I have signed my pin, said pin being adapted to force said name to this specification in the presence of stud into locking engagement with the two subscribing Witnesses.
under-cut wall of said socket when said GEORGE ANKENMANN. 5 sleeve is threaded on said threaded portion itnesses:
and to permit the release of said tip when HIPPOLYTE CoUGE'r,
s p-id sleeve is loosened. 1 J OHN CLOSSE.
