Description

PATENTED DEC. 27, 1904.
EASTERLY. OBSTETEIOAL DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 4. 1903.
UNITED STATES Patented December 27, 1904.
MARY A. EASTERLY, OF AVA, ILLINOIS.
OBSTETRICAL DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 778,644, dated December 27, 1904.
Application filed geptember 4:, 1903. Serial No. 171,891.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARY A. EASTERLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ava, J ackson county, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Obstetrical Devices, of which the following isaspecification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to obstetrical devices, my object being to provide handholds for a woman during the labor of childbirth; and my invention consists of a suitable device having an upper front part to extend above the knee of the userand one or more handholds attached to and extending across the front face of the upper front part of the device.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side view, the limb of the user being broken away. Fig. 2 is a front view. Fig. 3 is a perspective showing my improved obstetrical device in use.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the leg portion 3 is provided with a suitable foot portion and has an upper front part extending above the knee of the wearer, and the straps 4 are attached to and extend across the front form handholds.
When a woman is about to lie down for the labor of childbirth, she may put one of my obstetrical devices upon eachfoot, and as she lies upon her back with her knees bent the handholds 4 being on top of her limbs are in a position to be conveniently reached and firmly gripped by her hands.
As a means of adjusting the device for the convenience of different people, I provide a plurality of the handholds on each device arranged one above the other, so that the most convenient one may be used.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is An obstetrical device comprising the leg portion 3. provided with a suitable foot portion and having an upper front part adapted to extend above the knee of the wearer, and a plurality of straps extending across the upper front part.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name i to this specification in presence of two subscriblng wltnesses.
