Description

J. D. PARROTT. OBSTETRIGAL APPLIANCE. APPLICATION FILED 0m. 12, 1909.
964,309., Patented July 12, 1910.
"IF NORRIS PETERS 70., WASHINGTON, n. c.
l PATENT @FFIC.
OBSTETRICAL APPLIANCE.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JENNIE D. PARROTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Obstetrical Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in surgical appliances, and more especially designed for use in obstetrical practice in the delivery of child birth, and comprises an adjustable strap arranged for attachment to the side rail of a bedstead.
Furthermore, the object of the invention is to provide a combination of straps, hand and foot pieces which are secured to a transverse adjusting strap and so arranged that the feet of the female may be held any desired distance apart.
Furthermore, the object of the invention is to provide an obstetrical appliance which can be easily and readily sterilized, and which will possess advantages in points of simplicity and general efficiency and at the same time be comparatively inexpensive of manufacture.
Vith these and other objects in View the invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification and in which corresponding parts in the several views are indicated by similar reference characters, and in which Figure 1, is a view showing the invention on a bed, and Fig. 2, is a perspective View.
In the drawings 1, 1, indicate the central or main strap which is provided centrally its length with a buckle 2 and at each end of said strap I secure rings 3, 3, and on each strap 1, 1, I secure foot pieces or sandals 4, 4, which permit the front portion of the foot of the female to be inserted therein. The foot pieces are secured to the straps 1, 1, in any convenient manner as by stitching them or by attaching them with a buckle to the straps 1, 1.
I secure on the rings 3, 3, hand straps 5, 5, which are provided with buckles 6, 6, in
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 12, 1910,
Application filed October 12, 1909.
Serial No. 522,301.
order that the length of same may be increased or diminished to suit the length of the female. On each hand strap I provide hand grips 7, 7, which may be easlly and readily removed if desired when the appliance is being sterilized or the same may be made of material that will permit of the same being sterilized with the remainder of the appliance. I also secure to the rings 3, 3, at right angles to the hand straps 5, 5, bed rail straps 8, 8, which are provided with buckles 9, 9, in order that they may be easily attached to and be adjusted to the size of the bed rail, 10.
It will be observed from the foregoing description that the appliance when in use will be secured to the bed rails and the main body of the strap with the foot pieces will be placed in a transverse position on the bed and the hand straps with the hand grips toward the head of the bed and the female inserts the front portion of her foot in the foot pieces and takes hold of the hand grips and the strap or appliance being adjustable it can be made the proper length to suit the length of the female and the conditions which generally surround the use of such device.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the character described, a main strap extending transversely of the bed, comprising two sections each provided with foot pieces suitably secured thereon, one on each section of said strap, said strap having means for adjusting its length between the foot pieces, rings secured on each outer end of said sections, rail straps provided with buckles secured to each of said rings and adapted to encircle the side rails of a bed, hand straps secured to said rings and provided at their opposite ends with hand holds and means for regulating the length of said hand straps intermediate their length as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JENNIE D. PARROTT.
