Description

E. E. FIELDS. COMBINED CUR APP cm TAIN AN ADE SUPPORT. u 0N FILED R. 3. 1920.
A&\\\\\\\\ PATENT OFFICE.
ELTA E.'FIELDS, MARION, OHIO.
('JOIMIIBIITED CURTAIN AND SHADE SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 22, 1920.
Application filed April 3, 1920. Serial No. 371,002.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELTA E. FInLns, a citizen, of the United States, residing at Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Curtain and Shade Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device which will facilitate the hanging of window shades and curtains. It has for its object to provide a device of the character specified which shall be so constructed as to permit of adjustment being had to accommodate shade rollers of different lengths without necessitating the removal of the fixtures from the window casing, and .to provide a device which shall be cheap of manufacture, attractive in appearance and durable.
With the foregoing objects in mind the invention consists in the certain construction and combination of. parts hereinafter illustrated, described and particularly pointed out in the appended description and claims.
Reference being had to the accompanying drawings wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts of reference throughout the various views, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner in which the device is attached to the window casing, the window casing being shown in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a plan view and Fig. 3 an end elevation.
The invention is formed as a stamping of light sheet metal and comprises a plate 1 provided with holes 2 by means of which it may be secured to the outside edge of the window casing 3 by means of screws 4. At the top and at one of the corners the plate 1 has projecting therefrom a vertical socket 5 which is preferably square in cross section and said socket has formed in its front wall a squared notch 6 for a purpose to be hereinafter described. Beneath said socket and extending in the opposite direction thereof the plate 1 has formed thereon a horizontal channel shaped extension or bar 7 which is made as a part of the plate 1 and is supported thereon by a corner 8 of the material being bent over at right angles to itself. This extension is provided on its top and bottomv faces with a plurality of holes 9 by means of upon the extension 7 thereby to accommodate window shades of various widths. The
curtain support comprises a pair of telescoping rods 15 and 16 which are preferably square in cross section and have their ends bent at right angles as at 17 for a short distance and then having the extreme end 18 bent downwardly to form a finger which is placed within the socket 5. It will be noted that the top face of said rod comes in a plane with the top edge of the socket 5 due to the fact that the rod is positioned within the notch 6, thus preventing any movement of .the rod with respect to the fixture.
The above construction or stamping may be manufactured of comparatively cheap material after which they may be given a coating of brass and lacquer thereby to present an attractive appearance. The manner in which the same is constructed permits of very cheap manufacture yet providinga very durable construction, and while I have shown and described this particular form of invention it is evident that the same is capable of being modified in various ways and I do not wish to limit myself in the construction of the same further than is required by the state of the art or that which comes within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim 1. A shade support comprising a plate adapted to be secured to the side edge of a casing, and a horizontal bar having angular flanges projecting laterally from the front edge of said plate and adapted to extend across the front of the casing, and a shade bracket mounted upon said bar and adjustable along the same and engaging a plurality of said flanges.
2. A shade support comprising a plate adapted to be secured to the side edge of a casing, and a horizontal bar projecting laterally from the "front edge of said plate, said bar being formed of sheet metal U-slmped in cross section, the flange of the bar having holes therein, and an angular sheet metal shade bracket mounted upon said bar and provided With a pin adapted to fit in any one of said holes.
In testimony whereof I do affix my signature in presence of two wltnesses.
