Description

PATENT-ED FEB. 18, 1908. G. KABUREGK. UMBRELLA TIP.
APPLICATION FILED MAR 19, 1907.

@ eoryelfaure 01 UNITED STATES GEORGE KABUREOK, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
UMBRELLA-TIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1a, 1908.
Application filed March 19, 1907- Serial No. 363.228.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE KABURECK, a citizen'of theUnited States of America, and residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in UmbrellaTips, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to umbrellas, walking sticks, crutches and'the like, andthe object thereof is to provide a device of this character whereby a resisting seat-is provided, which prevents the article upon which it is placed from passing through the soft resilient material of which it is com-l posed, said resisting seat being so formed as to insure its permanent position in the tip,
and also to insure it against being forced through the said tip, and a still furtherobject being to provide a tip of this class which is simple in construction and very economical.
My invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part,'in which the separate parts in each of the views are des- .ignated by the same reference characters, 30
and in which:'-'Figure 1 is a sectional view of an umbrella tip constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2-is a bottom plan view thereof, and- Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings forming part of this application, l have shown a portion of an umbrella rod a, which is provided with a ferrule a and the rod a and ferrule a, therefor are adapted to beforced into a tip b composed of rubber or other resilient material, said tip being provided with a central opening 6 for that purpose, and, in practice, I prefer to corrugate, score, or otherwise roughen the bottom of the tip I) as shown at b Arranged at the bottom of the bore b is a plate 0, which is preferably slightly conicalin form, and the upper and lower surfaces of which are concaved', the upper surface being concaved forthe urpose o forming a positive seat for the errule a, and .the bottom 5t surface being concaved in order to forceandcompress the resilient material toward the center of the plate a when pressure is brought to bear upon it, thereby preventing'the said plate 0 from being forced through the; ma- Z terial of which the tip bis composed.
The plate 0 is preferably made of a slightly iv greater diameter than the boreb and, be-
ing inclined downwardly on its edgesen'gages the material of which the tip is composed and is thereby prevented from accidental or other removal from the tip, and the bore 11 is preferably made of lesser diameter than the rod a. It will be understood that my invention ay be applied to a number of articles and arious changesin and modifications of the orm of construction shown and described ay be-made, without'departing from the antages, and, with this reservation, What I claim as new, and desire to secure v Letters Patent ,'is:-- 1 Z 1. A device of the class describerLcomprising a tip of resilient material provided with a central bore adapted to'receive the end of an umbrella or walking stick, anda plate at the bottom of said bore, said plate being provided with upper and lower con caved surfaces. i 2. A device of the class described, comwith a central bore adaptedto receive the end of an umbrella or walking stick'and a plate in w the bottom of said bore, said'plate having an inclined or tapered edge and being. provided. with upper and lower concaved surfaces.
In testimon that I'claim the foregoing as my invention ,have signed my name in presence ofthe subscribing witnesses this-15th .dayofMar'ch,19(l7.
