Abstract
992,651. Centrifugal compressors. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. July 25, 1962, No. 28619/62. Heading F1C. A centrifugal compressor comprises two parallel shafts 10, 11 each provided with a pinion wheel 22, 23 driven by a common gearwheel 21, and at least three impellers, each impeller being secured in overhung fashion to an end of one of the two shafts, two of the impellers (12, 13) being arranged in parallel with respect to flow, the third impeller (14) on the other shaft being arranged in series with, and downstream with respect to the combined output of, the parallel-arranged impellers. A third-stage impeller, which is axially narrower than the others, is arranged downstream of the second-stage impeller 14. Intercoolers may be arranged between the compressor stages. The impeller 14 preferably receives the same volumetric flow as each of impellers 12, 13, whereby the speed of the shafts 10, 11 and the dimensions of the shafts 10, 11 and associated pinions and bearings may be substantially equal. The axes of the gear-wheel shaft 30 and the shafts 10, 11 are parallel and in the same plane. The shaft 30 is driven, for example, by an electric motor, a diesel engine or a steam turbine.
