979,126. Magnetic compositions. AMPEX CORPORATION. Aug. 29, 1963 [Nov. 1, 1962], No. 34278/63. Heading H1H. A square loop ferrite, which may be formed into toroidal elements for a magnetic memory, comprises substantially: 8.15 mol. % lithium oxide; 54.9 mol. % ferric oxide; 17.39 mol. % manganous oxide; 5.43 mol. % zinc oxide; 14.13 mol. % nickel oxide, which is calcined at between 750‹ and 1000‹ C., pressed into the desired shape and then sintered at between 1000‹ and 1300‹ C. Oxalates or carbonates may be used instead of oxides. The Specification gives an example of firing procedures (including specified atmospheres) and the signal to noise ratio of memory elements made from ferrite according to the invention.
