Abstract
1,071,611. Magnetic compositions. SUMITOMO SPECIAL METALS CO. Ltd. June 15, 1964, No..24761/64. Heading H1H. In the manufacture of spinel ferrites the sintering is performed in two stages; in the first stage sintering takes place in a reducing atmosphere such as to produce a ferrite deficient in oxygen, and in the second stage sintering takes place in a more oxidizing atmosphere. The ferrites may be simple or mixed ferrites of Mn, Ni, Cu, Mg, Zn, Cd, Co, and Fe and may contain up to 0.035% by weight of CaO, Al 2 O 3 , TiO 2 , ZrO 2 , Li 2 O, BeO, MgO and B 2 O 3 and up to 3.5% by weight of In 2 O 3 , Sb 2 O 3 , SnO, Bi 2 O 3, As 2 O 3 CeO 2 and CuO. The sintering may take place in a N 2 atmosphere containing O 2 , the first stage being at 800‹ C.-1400‹ C. in an atmosphere having a partial pressure of oxygen between 10<SP>-6</SP> mm. Hg and 10 mm. Hg, and the second stage being performed at a higher temperature between 1000‹ and 1500‹ C. and at an increased pressure of 10<SP>-4</SP> mm. Hg to 200 mm. Hg. Cooling takes place at a pressure less than 40 mm. Hg. Specific examples of the manufacture of MnZn ferrite Mn Zn Cd ferrite, Ni Co ferrite, Mg ferrite and Cu Zn ferrite with various additions are disclosed.
