Abstract

946,522. Spraying fusible materials; powder distributers. METCO Inc. March 30, 1962 [July 19, 1961], No. 12325/62. Heading B2F. A controlled rate powder feed device for a flame spray gun comprises a housing 1, Figs. 1, 3, having a cylindrical bore 2 with liner 3, inside which a conveyer wheel 10 on shaft 12 is rotatable. Powder is gravity fed from hopper 40 through flexible rubber tube 44, passage 33 in housing 1, to the wheel 10 and fills the spaces between the teeth thereon. The wheel is rotated by means of the variable speed motor 31, Fig. 2 (not shown) through gears 29, 28, worm 27, gear 26 on shaft 22 which is coupled to shaft 12 by coupling 21. Powder is conveyed to the passage 65 and thence to the gas flow duct 58 to be entrained in the gas. The hopper is screwed into the base unit 41 and the combination is removable from housing 1. On removal the spring-loaded plunger unit 48, 49, 51, Fig. 4 (not shown) operates to squeeze the tube 44 thus automatically sealing the discharge passage. To prevent a vacuum in the hopper 40 air is admitted through passage 45 and porous plug 46. The apparatus may be vibrated by an electrical vibrator 66.
