Abstract

1353062 Pneumatic conveyers WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 14 June 1971 [17 Aug 1970] 27678/71 Heading B8A Powdered resinous material is conveyed between a hopper 12 and a spray nozzle (20), Fig. 1 (not shown), by an apparatus comprising a cylindrical chamber 22 with a p.t.f.e. lining 24, a screw 30 rotatably mounted in the chamber to move the material from the inlet of the chamber, coupled to the hopper, to the outlet, coupled by a pipe (18) to the nozzle, and a series of nozzles 56, 58 60, 62, 64 arranged to inject pressurized air into the apparatus to fluidize the material. The nozzle 64 is arranged to remain operative after the remainder of the apparatus has been shut down to clear the pipe (18) of material and a flap valve 48, operable by differential pressure, is arranged to close the end of the chamber to prevent the air from the nozzle 64 from entering the chamber. The screw 30 is driven by a variable speed motor (16).
