Abstract
891,698. Screwing-up nuts. PNEUMASERVE Ltd. Aug. 14, 1958 [Aug. 15, 1957], No. 26190/58. Class 83 (3). A device for positioning nuts A beneath a wrench 13 comprises a body 15 having a bore 50 into which the nuts are fed, and separable jaws 30, 31 having openings 40, forming a reduced continuation of bore 50, and a cupshaped counterbore 42 to guide nuts into a facedownwards position for engagement by the socket 44 of the wrench. An adaptor 10 secures the device to the nut runner 12 and houses a spring 20 urging body 15 away from the adaptor, a stop 22 on an arm 16 carried by the body engaging an arm 17 on the adaptor to limit movement of the body. The stop also actuates a valve 23 to deliver a nut to a side passage 25 on each return stroke of body 15. Alternatively, the nuts may be delivered manually. A spring-biased deflector 46 for the falling nuts is cammed into an opening 47 by the wrench, which also separates the jaws 30, 31, biased by springs 35, 36, as it drives a nut. A fence 27 bearing on a workpiece &c. positions the jaws above a bolt B for the nut. The counterbore 42 is part-spherical or nearly so, or of multiple bevel formation, being steeper at the periphery.
