Abstract

706,203. Watches. JUNGHANS AKT.- GES., GEB. May 15, 1951 [May 15, 1950], No. 11341/51. Class 139 An automatic winding mechanism for wrist watches comprises a watch frame, a winding pendulum capable of oscillatory movement and having a pinion mounted thereon, a reversible imput torque-unidirectional output torque gearing consisting in a rockable member having two intermeshing gears mounted thereon, one of which being in constant mesh with the said pinion and both being alternatively engageable with a gear of the gearing which is intermediate said pinion and the gear of the main spring, said rockable member being mounted on a fixed axle on the watch frame, control means secured on the rockable member being engageable with the said pinion on the winding pendulum for moving the rockable member upon reversal of the movement of the pendulum into the alternative engagement position. The weight or pendulum 1 carries a pinion 3 which constantly meshes with a gear 4 carried by a rockable member 6 pivoted at 7. The gear 4 constantly meshes with a gear 5 also carried by the member 6. A spring member 21 is fixed at one end to the member 6 and at the other end 21a projects into the teeth of the pinion 3. The arrangement is such that when the weight 1 swings clockwise the gear 4 drives a gear 8 anticlockwise through the gear 5 but when the weight 1 swings anticlockwise the gear 4 directly drives the gear 8 anticlockwise. The change in the drive is effected by a rocking movement of the member 6 about its pivot 7 which movement is caused by the action of the teeth of the pinion 3 on the gear 4 and on the spring 21. The gear 8 drives the barrel gear 16 through the train compressing pinion 9, gear 10, pinion 11, gear 12, spring pawl 13, ratchet 14 and pinion 15. Reverse rotation of this train is prevented by a pawl 17 which engages the teeth of the gear 8. The gear 16 may be rotated through the usual keyless mechanism (not shown), during which rotation the teeth of the ratchet 14 slip past the pawl 13 as the ratchet moves anticlockwise.
