Abstract

659,656. Suction cleaner nozzles. HOOVER, Ltd. June 9, 1949, No. 15383. Convention date, June 10, 1948. [Class 8(i)] A suction cleaner nozzle comprises a body 14, Fig. 3, providing a main mouth 15 outside of which is mounted a brush 42 which is rendered inoperative when covered by a pivoted flap 19 and rendered operative when the flap covers part of the main mouth 15 to provide a secondary mouth 35. The flap 29 is pivoted by a flexible sealing strip 25 and projects downwards on lifting the body 14, the flap being then positioned by forward or rearward movement of the body. The secondary mouth 35 is formed by a slot in the flap. In a modification the brush is located in front of the nozzle body 55, Fig. 9, and the flap 60 is of such size as to leave a space 70 between it and the opposite lip 57 to form the secondary mouth. The bearing surfaces of the nozzle are curved to enable it to be rocked to assist springs 44 in contacting the brush 42 with the floor.
