Abstract

579,558. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. June 1, 1944, No. 10533. Convention date, May 12, 1943. [Class 8(i)] A propelled vacuum floor cleaner is converted to dusting by attachment of an element carrying a hose and nozzle; the element is inserted through a slot in the floor nozzle and is slotted on its front and rear faces to span the driving belt for the rotary agitator, and carries a spring pressed sealing element 50 normally held open, but closed to cut air off from the floor nozzle by closely surrounding the belt automatically on complete insertion into the slot. A hinged cover normally closes the slot and acts as a guide during insertion; a manual latch holds the converter in place. Specification 554,866 is referred to.
