[Class 107] A closure for the entrance of an air-raid shelter comprises a hinged cover-plate 5 with flanged edges 6 to engage a suitably-packed channel formed by flanges 2, 3 on a frame 1 and means, operable from inside or outside, for locking the plate in the closed position. As shown, the locking-means comprises a collar 13 fixed on a spindle 14 which can be turned, from inside by a handle 17, and from outside by means of a key engaging the apertured head 10 of the collar. The latter is formed with a wedging-recess 11 to receive a projection 7 on the cover. To assist opening, and to damp the closing, of the cover, a spring 27 may be fitted between the flanged end 30 of a bracket 31 on the frame and a collar on a rod 28 pivoted on the cover. Ventilating-apertures 33 in the latter are closed by a plate 34, fitted with packing-strips 35. The plate 34 is carried by pins 37 on a hinged flap 36 secured by a bolt and nut 41, 43. The frame is shown provided with bolt-holes for the attachment of a protective canopy of the kind described in Specification 526,586.
