Abstract

Motors, mounting or supporting. - One or more, friction dampers control the movements of one end of an engine which is so mounted on the frame that the end in question is free to rotate within limits about a longitudinal axis the other end being fixed. In the example shown in Figs. 2. 3 and 4, the engine is supported from the side frames a at three points b<4>, b<4>, c<4> the support at the point c<4> consisting of a longitudinal pivot. Torsional vibrations or other movements of this end of the engine 267 relatively to the frame are resisted by friction damping devices consisting of metal discs a<2> with extensions bolted to the frames a, metal discs e with extensions e<1>, e<2> by means of which they are anchored to the engine casing, interposed fabric discs e<3> and a spring clamping bolt with washers. The size of the bolt holes is such as to allow movement in all directions. In a modification, the single supporting pivot for the engine is replaced by a two point connection but with interposed linkwork making it mechanically equivalent to a single point.
