Abstract

344,557. Road vehicle suspensions. SOC. ANON. DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS L. LAISNE, Cote St. Sebastien, Nantes, France.-(Assignees of Laisne, L. R. E.; 16, Cote St. Sebastien, Nantes, France.) Dec. 17, 1929, No. 38674. Convention date, Aug. 10. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii).] In vehicle suspension systems in which independent wheels are each carried on the end of a lever 1, Fig. 1, pivoted at 2 on the frame of the vehicle and combined with cushioning blocks of rubber and similar elastic material, the cushioning blocks consist of a pile of rubber discs or cylinders 4a with interposed rigid discs 4b, the pile being arranged between a plate 6 fixed to the frame and a movable plate 5. A roller 8 mounted adjustably on the short arm 1b of the lever bears upon the top of the plate 5. In modifications one set of rubber discs may support the weight of the vehicle while an opposed set resists rebound. In a further modification the set of discs is arranged with its axis horizontal and is connected by a horizontal link to a short vertical arm of the lever 1. The rubber discs may be initially compressed independently of the load. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes several constructions of rubber suspensions combined with levers or parallel motion link-work; also vibrating dampers and equalizing connections between the suspensions on opposite sides of the vehicle. In the construction shown in Fig. 5 (Cancelled), the wheel is mounted on the end of a lever 1a projecting forwardly or rearwardly from and rigid with the shaft 2 between which and the casing 3a on the vehicle frame are interposed conical rubber sleeves 13 which may be compressed by the nut 19. Rotation of the shaft 2 may also be resisted by a rubber block 16 interposed between a short arm 14 projecting from the shaft and a fixed bracket 15. Oscillation of the shaft may be damped by a friction band 17 as shown in Fig. 7 (Cancelled), the band being tightened by springs and adjusting screws 20 carried by the fork 17a. In the suspension shown in Fig. 11 (Cancelled), each wheel is connected to the frame through a transverse parallel motion linkwork including links 25, 26; conical rubber bearings, as previously described, are applied to the smaller joints, while cylindrical rubber blocks are applied to the large joint between the link 25 and the frame ; rubber blocks 16 also help to support the weight. Modifications are described in which the parallel motion linkwork is arranged longitudinally of the vehicle. The two wheels on opposite sides of the vehicle may be connected by equalizing mechanism as shown in Fig. 8 (Cancelled). The wheels are mounted on the ends of arms 1 each projecting forwardly from a shaft 2. The shafts can rotate independently but react against one another through oppositely acting rubber blocks 23 and an independent shaft 21 which oscillates in its bearings. Each rubber block 23 is interposed between brackets 22 projecting one from the shaft 21 and the other from a shaft 22. One block 23 is vertical and the other horizontal as shown in Fig. 9 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
