Abstract

1509586 Selective adsorption of 1,3-butadiene UOP Inc 11 Aug 1975 [12 Aug 1974] 33333/75 Heading C5E 1,3-Butadiene is separated from a feed stream containing at least one C 4 unsaturate by selective adsorption on a type X or Y zeolite containing at least one cation selected from Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs and/or Ba. Subsequently the butadiene-containing adsorbent is treated with a desorbent such as benzene, toluene or linear monoolefin of substantially different boiling point from butadiene. Preferred adsorption and desorption conditions are 21-232‹C. and a pressure of 1-35 atmospheres to maintain the liquid phase. The zeolite is preferably exchanged to eliminate all the acid sites.
