Abstract

1307085 Grinding MICROMATIC HONE CORP 5 March 1970 [17 June 1969] 10629/70 Heading B3D An abrading tool comprises a tool body 13 having an axial bore 17, a cone device 21 slidable in the bore, an abrading means 33<SP>1</SP> movable radially inwardly and outwardly by axial movement of the cone device, an expander plate 25 between the cone device and abrasive means, and resilient layer means 34 between the abrasive means and cone device for the purpose of reducing chatter and shock when the tool is reciprocated and rotated against the surface of a workpiece. The expander plates are disposed in slots 19 in the body which is provided with guides (15, Fig. 1A, not shown) on its outer surface. The cone device has a pair of cores engaging the expander plates 25 which abut the abrasive means in the form of holders 331 having recesses 35<SP>1</SP> for abrasive 35, the holders being held by garter springs 27, 28. The resilient layer 34, which may be epoxy, polyurethane, cork, neoprene or other synthetic material is applied to the radially inner surface of the holder, the inner or outer edge of each expander plate, or to the surface of the cone.
