Abstract

1,136,393. Roller conveyers. DOUGLASROWNSON Ltd. 1 July, 1966 [7 July, 1965], No. 28831/65. Heading B8A. Articles are propelled along a roller conveyer by rollers mounted on driving members which are pivotally mounted on an endless belt or chain. The conveyer shown comprises two rows of rollers 1 and each driving member comprises a roller 15 rotatable on arms 16 which are pivoted to a bracket 18 on an endless belt 8, 9. Tension springs 20 normally hold the driving member in the position shown but the member may pivot in a clockwise direction. Supports 3 for the rollers 1 are vertically adjustable by bolts 5. If there is a stoppage of an article 30 the arms 16 of the driving member are able to yield in a clockwise direction so that the roller 15 can pass under the article. This roller may have a freewheel arranged to prevent articles over-running when the conveyer is on an inclination. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) a ramp (40) depresses each roller (15) which is prevented from engaging the article (30) so that no drive is transmitted over this portion of the conveyer. In Fig. 4 (not shown) a ramp (41) engages the undersides of the rollers (15) which are thus driven and cause any articles accumulated above the ramp to be moved away at twice the speed of the belt. In Fig. 5 (not shown) a pad (45) of frictional material is supported on a link (46) connected to the arms (16) of a driving member. The pad may engage the undersurface of an article to assist in dispersing an accumulation of articles or in preventing over-running when the conveyer is disposed downhill.
