Abstract
1,034,055. Feeding endless conveyers. BAGSHAWE & CO. Ltd. Dec. 1, 1964 [March 10, 1964], No. 10014/64. Heading B8A. A means for feeding groups of articles E to the horizontal section of an endless conveyer or elevator system, Figs. 1, 2, 3 (not shown), having article platforms F spaced along and bridged across a pair of chains A comprises a reception section C for receiving and grouping articles arriving from a belt B and/or roller conveyer 31, front and rear stops 22, 29 to control the movement of articles into and from the section C, limit switches or photo-electric devices 39 to sense each complete group of articles in section C, a limit switch 34 to sense the arrival of a platform F adjacent section C, and to cause the stop 22 to become operative and stop 29 to become inoperative, and further limit switch 36 to sense the departure of the loaded platform F from section C and to cause reversal of the stop position whereby a further group of articles is fed into section C. The receptive section C comprises freely rotatable rollers 28 in line with rollers 31 all at a level below that of the horizontal platform F and the front stop comprises a fixed bar 29. Upon the switches 39, 34 sensing a complete group of articles and a platform F coming into pick-up position, a powered actuator 26 raises a frame 20 relative to fixed frame 19 and endless belts 24 on the frame 20 lift the articles off the rollers 28 and above the stop bar 29 to feed them on to the platform F, with the aid of a bridging roller 30. The rear stop 22 which with the frame 20 prevents further articles passing into section C while the discharge operation takes place. The actuator 26 lowers the frame 20 when switch 36 is triggered by point 35 on the upstream end of the loaded platform F. The rollers 31 and the belts 24 are driven from the conveyer A. The articles are guided in transfer by guides 38. The platforms F are formed of separate portions which flex in one direction only. In a further embodiment, Figs. 4, 5, 6 (not shown), the reception section C comprises a roller conveyer frame pivotal about a point adjacent the platform F. The upstream end of said frame forms the rear stop when it is pivoted upwards and the front stop is formed by a pivotal bar having an upturned end which extends above the roller conveyer when the latter is in its lower position.
