Abstract

1,092,112. Packaging-machines. KOCHS ADLERNAEHMASCHINENWERKE A.G. Nov. 11, 1964 [Nov. 11, 1963], No. 46006/64. Heading B8C. A machine packs groups of articles into cartons by assembling the group from articles fed in on a conveyer, transferring the group to an elevator, erecting a carton above the elevator and raising the latter to place the group in the carton. The articles are fed by a conveyer 2 against a stop 3 and operate feelers so that, when a required row is assembled, it is pushed on to a platform 8. This is repeated to form a layer which is transferred to the elevator 10. The elevator may then descend to receive further layers. A gripper head bearing suction cups 13 draws a collapsed carton 14 from a magazine 15 past stationary guides which erect it and fixed folders which hinge back the upper and lower trailing closure flaps. The lowest pair of cups 13 is mounted for rearward pivoting on the head to hinge back the leading lower closure flap, the upper leading flap being folded to the closed position by a fixed member (19), Fig. 1 (not shown). Two reciprocable guides 41 rise to hinge back one lower side closure flap and the elevator rises, the elevator platform being movable horizontally by cam means 34 to enable the load to clear the remaining lower closure flap 35 and be directed by the guides 41 into the carton. Finally, a pusher 36 moves the filled carton from the elevator past closure flap folding means 37, 50 to discharge the package from the machine.
