Abstract

1,059,646. Feeding webs; printing processes; delivering sheets. DAGENS NYHETERS A.B. July 3, 1964, No. 27592/64. Headings B6B, B6C and B6H. Apparatus comprising a rotary printing machine 1, a delivery table 4, a vertical conveyer 6, and a distributing station 7, is provided with a marking device 8 which is automatically and/or manually controlled for applying ink or paint to defective copies of newspapers or the like so that they may be readily detected and sorted out from the flawless copies at the distribution station. The marking device comprises a housing 12 slidable along a base 13 and is located between the impression cylinder of the printing machine and a transverse cutter 2. Mounted within the housing is a freely rotatable roller 17 and a feeding roller 21 partly immersed in a reservoir containing ink or paint. The roller 17 projects through an opening in the housing and is rotated by the printed web 1 when in contact therewith. The housing is moved towards and away from the printed web by a pneumatically operated piston-andcylinder 16 under the control of a detector 9 or push button 10. The detector operates the marking device and an acoustic or visual warning device on sensing a breakage in the web. The push-button is operated when the printing machine is running slow, i.e. during stopping and starting said machine. A counter 11 responsive to the passage of newspapers along the conveyer 6, is connected in the control circuit of the marking apparatus so that it is put out of operation while ink or paint is applied to the defective copies. Thus the total count equals the number of flawless copies.
