Abstract

1,005,411. Spin driers; tumbler driers. PHILCO CORPORATION. Feb. 7, 1963 [Feb. 7, 1962], No. 4999/63. Heading F4G. In apparatus for spin-drying laundry articles the basket is first rotated at centrifugal extraction speed followed by an interval during which the basket is rotated at a lesser, tumbling speed permitting a pump to discharge from the apparatus washing fluid extracted during the spin cycle and followed by a further interval at centrifugal extraction speed. This sequence may be repeated one or more times. A laundry machine comprises a drum 14 with ribs 16, an electric heater 30, a rinsing water inlet (not shown) and a removable lint trap 26, the drum being rotated on a shaft 17 through a two-speed transmission by a motor 22 which also drives an extraction pump 23. The transmission is intermittently moved to provide high and low speed rotation of the basket by a selective timer mechanism (not shown) to prevent hydraulic coupling between the basket and housing 10, while the tumbling cycle prevents the laundry articles adhering to the basket walls.
